Course Completion • Deadlines
How long does it usually take to complete a course? What if I need to finish quickly?
Typically our courses require a minimum of three to four months to complete. This timeframe varies by course and number of credit hours. If you need to complete more quickly, you must contact our office prior to enrolling to see if a shorter timeframe is possible for your course.
If you have a specific completion deadline, it is important that you consult with our office prior to enrolling to ensure you will have adequate time to complete the course. It is your responsibility to submit assignments and make regular progress in the course to allow you to complete by your deadline.
Must my final exam be graded before my expiration date?
For students enrolled prior to August 1, 2011: Your final exam must be taken, not graded, before your course expiration date.
What if something happens that causes me to fall behind on my course?
For students enrolled prior to August 1, 2011: You may consider a three-month course extension to help you complete. Additional information can be found in the extensions section. KU degree-seeking students using financial aid to pay for their Independent Study enrollment(s) are not eligible for an extension.
What happens if my course expires?
For students enrolled prior to August 1, 2011: If you have not completed your course and it expires, you will not be able to submit additional coursework or take exams. The course will appear on your transcript with a grade of F. No refunds are available for courses that expire. If you would like to complete the course, you will be required to reenroll and pay in full for the course.
